Lech Hill

The hill of the cathedral with views over town – site of the Piast stronghold.

The oldest part of Gniezno. A Piast stronghold stood here in the 10th century; legend ties the hill to Lech and the white eagle’s nest.

Today it is the space around the cathedral: the square, the walls, viewpoints over the town and Lake Jelonek. One climb covers the cathedral, the Gniezno Doors and the Archdiocesan Museum.

The square around the cathedral is open around the clock and needs no ticket – a good option for the evening, once the museums have closed.
